of experience required. First-time travelers considered only if
they have experience caring for post-operative surgical patients.
License: Compact or state license required at the time of
submission. Certifications: BLS, ACLS required. Must-Have:
Experience with orthopedic and gastrointestinal surgeries.
Description: This is a busy and fast-paced medical surgical unit
caring for orthopedic, spine, general surgery, and bariatric
patients. The unit typically receives 10-20 post-operative patients
per day. Nursing responsibilities include both medical and surgical
skillsets. Nurses are required to float to other units within their
skillset. Strong attention to detail is necessary due to the high
turnover rate, with multiple admissions and discharges per shift.
Experience with wound vacs and orthopedic equipment is required.
The unit supports interdisciplinary services, including physical
therapy and respiratory services. Patients in this unit include
adults and geriatrics, primarily post-operative patients, as well
as medical patients. Nursing skills needed include telemetry
monitoring, management of dysrhythmias, and care for surgical
drains and central lines. Nurses should be adept in IV therapy,
phlebotomy, and administering blood products. Compliance with exams
and competencies is mandatory prior to beginning work. High demand
for adaptable nurses who can handle diverse patient needs in a
