tuition reimbursement program. SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF JOB The
Respiratory Therapist position exists to administer all types of
therapies within the Respiratory Care Department to provide quality
patient care for the adult rehabilitation population served from
age 15 and older. Position advises physician staff on appropriate
types of therapeutic modalities. Understands and exhibits the
principals of service excellence, leads by example, and mentors'
others in the performance of their assigned duties. Additionally,
understands that every employee is responsible for exhibiting
exceptional customer service by answering call lights on the
nursing unit and if not able to assist personally, will inform the
appropriate employee regarding the patient's need. PRIMARY JOB
DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Sets-up, initiates, and monitors basic
oxygen and aerosol therapy, continuous mechanical ventilation, CPAP
and BiPAP, overnight oximetry studies, in any care areas to
include: obtaining proper orders, delivery and setup/break down of
equipment needed specific to the patient use integrating age
specific issues. Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment. Provides
accurate charting and charging, edits results, creates report,
interprets results and advises physician regarding appropriate
action for appropriate airway management. Administers all types of
intermittent therapy and medication to include, obtaining proper
orders, accurate charting, and charging and troubleshooting of
equipment as required. Performs Electrocardiographic (EKG)
procedures, point of care lab testing, i.e. arterial blood gases
per medical director's approval. Provides continuous, 24-hour
coverage for services and is available to respond to "rapid
response" and "Code Blue" situations. Assists the Director of the
department with policies, protocols, reports, rental equipment,
stocking of supplies. Participates in continuous quality
improvement/program evaluation activities and observes measures to
ensure Hospital, Joint Commission, CARF and other quality standards
and regulations are met. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, ABILITIES Must possess technical knowledge of various types
of equipment in the department and their application. Must have
thorough knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology and
pathology as it applies to any and all modes of respiratory
therapy. Must have general knowledge of drugs that affect the
cardiopulmonary system, age-related issues and a thorough knowledge
of specific pharmacological agents that respiratory therapy
personnel administer. Must have knowledge of indication and hazards
associated with therapy and all intermittent modalities. Bilingual
capability (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. SPECIAL TRAINING,
LICENSURE, CREDENTIALING Must be a graduate of an AMA approved
registry program. Current valid Indiana license (or certification)
as Registered Respiratory Therapist, preferred or Certified
Respiratory Therapy Technician. Must possess and maintain CPR
certification in accordance with American Heart Association
Standards. Must complete ACLS course and maintain certification
within three months of hire date; must complete initial and
on-going competency training for drawing of Arterial Blood Gases as
required by CLIA. EDUCATION Associate Degree in Respiratory
Therapy, B.S. preferred. Must attempt to pass the Registry exam
within 2 years of hire date. Hours Part-Time Work: All Shifts are
