Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Description: The Foster Care
Home Provider opens their heart and home to children and youth
(ages 0–21) who need a temporary, safe, and nurturing environment.
This isn't just about providing a room; it’s about providing a
family. You will act as a primary caregiver, advocate, and
emotional anchor for children navigating the foster care system,
helping them feel secure and valued while their biological families
work toward reunification or other permanency goals. Requirements:
Holistic Care giving -You provide the essentials of a healthy
childhood—nutritious meals, a stable home, educational support, and
regular healthcare—all delivered with the warmth and consistency of
a dedicated parent. Healing-Centered Parenting -You recognize that
children in foster care have experienced loss. You provide a
"nurture-first" environment, using patience and empathy to help
children process their emotions and build resilience. Stability &
Routine -You create a predictable household rhythm. From consistent
bedtimes to family traditions, you provide the structure that
allows a child’s nervous system to move from "survival mode" to
"growth mode." Educational & Social Advocacy -You are the child’s
champion. You will partner with schools to ensure they are thriving
academically and encourage participation in extracurricular
activities, hobbies, and community events to build their
self-esteem. Co-Parenting & Reunification Support - You act as a
bridge. Where safe and encouraged by DCBS, you support the child's
relationship with their biological family, recognizing that
maintaining these connections is vital to the child’s identity and
healing. Transition Mentorship - For older youth and young adults
(up to 21), you act as a life-skills coach, teaching them the
"how-to" of adulthood—like driving, cooking, and career
planning—within the safety of a family setting. Professional
Partnership -You work as a key member of a professional team. This
includes regular communication with DCBS Case Workers, attending
court hearings, and participating in meetings to ensure the child’s
best interests are always met. Patient & Adaptive -You understand
that every child is unique. You can pivot your parenting style to
meet the specific emotional and developmental needs of the child in
your care. Emotionally Mature -You can maintain a calm, steady
presence during a child's "big emotions," offering comfort and
safety without taking challenging behaviors personally. Team Player
-You are a clear communicator who values collaboration with social
workers, therapists, and biological parents to achieve the best
outcome for the child. Open-Hearted -You have a genuine desire to
make a lasting impact on a child’s life, regardless of how long
they stay in your home. Requirements Home Standards -Must have a
safe, stable home with a dedicated bed/space for each child and
meet all Kentucky fire and safety codes. Background Clearances
-Must pass all state-mandated background checks, including the
Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) registry. Commitment - A willingness
to provide "high-nurture" care and a commitment to the child’s
safety, permanency, and well-being.
